Along with their excellent hearing, they have a keen senses of smell and a superb sense of sight in both daytime and nighttime conditions. This makes mule deer hunting a real challenge. Many outfitters will combine whitetail deer and mule deer hunting trips. Mule deer hunting is popular during the rut because bucks are exposed in the open more during the day because of the constant running after does. The best strategy for mule deer hunting is glassing with binoculars and then stalking to shooting range.

ELK HUNTING IN ALBERTA CANADA

Alberta Canada elk hunts with professional hunting outfitters

Alberta elk are found mostly along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains in the high basins and foothills zones, The elk have been migrating to the boreal forest and parkland regions over the last several years. Alberta has a growing population of elk that numbers in the neighborhood of 26,000 animals.

Alberta’s elk mature quickly and it is not uncommon for three-year-old bulls to sport 6×6 racks. Excellent management allows non-residents to harvest only 6×6 elk in many areas, allowing the majority of bulls to reach maturity.

Elk hunting begins in late August and early September with the archery season. Archery hunting is permitted in most zones prior to the rifle season and there are two archery-only zones in the province. Many of the rifle seasons open in mid-September and stretch until the end of November, and a couple of zones extend through into February. During the early hunts, when the elk are in rut, the favored method of hunting is bugling and cow calling. The rut often lasts into mid-October. Any way you choose, you’ll have the opportunity to see monster elk.
